Hearty Goulash

When I was growing up, I hated when my mom would tell me that we were having goulash. It was just a mushy pasta with hamburger and tomatoes. I know traditional goulash is just pasta and tomatoes, but my mom always added hamburger or venison.

As an adult, there were times in my past when money would be so tight that I would struggle to find any kind of variety that I would fix my family goulash. Unfortunately, none of us liked it the way my mom fixed it, so I needed to make some adjustments.

I had some people tell me that they fixed it with spaghetti sauce, but I felt like that was just spaghetti with a different noodle. It was good, but I was tired of eating spaghetti. I wanted to keep it similar to my mom’s regular goulash but give it a twist to hopefully get my family to like it. I wasn’t going for family favorite or anything, but something to get picky children to just eat it. What I came up with was simple enough. I added some Italian seasoning (something I always keep in my cupboard). Before I knew it, my kids were asking me to make it.

Goulash

Ingredients:

1 box macaroni noodles

1 lb. hamburger

1 can diced tomatoes

Italian seasoning and salt

 

Directions:

Cook macaroni noodles according to package directions. Drain. Brown hamburger and drain.

Add diced tomatoes. Add Italian seasoning and salt to taste.

Super simple, but hearty and healthy. Hope your family enjoys it as much as mine does.
